three6five Management Team

Tyrone joined three6five  in early 2010. He is also one of the technical pioneers in the SA Internet and telecoms scene – he started his professional career at Telkom on the core infrastructure team (working on what was then the world’s largest OSPF implementation) before moving to Internet Solutions in 2000 to help implement one of Africa’s first MPLS networks.
This network was ground-breaking technology. Tyrone was the lead design and build engineer on the VPN network which eventually spanned Africa and into Europe and Asia, working in London, the USA and Switzerland to get all the ends together. He entertained himself (and others) while busy doing all this engineering work by presenting at conferences on MPLS deployment, traffic engineering and QoS.
This willingness to share expertise with the technical community didn’t stop when he moved to Cisco in 2006 as a senior systems engineer, where he worked on the design of many ISP and mobile networks in Southern Africa (including leading the project to build Telkom’s Next Generation IP network). He moved from Cisco to Juniper, again as a senior systems engineer, working on MTN’s Juniper-only data centre in Cameroon, and the worldwide project to connect all 23 of MTN’s international operations together, whilst still finding time to present at top national conferences.
Tyrone was tempted away from the vendor world by the team at three6five. He was unable to resist the chance to work with the best bunch of networking guys in Africa, who also share his old-school work values, of honesty, integrity and hard work.
When not steering the three6five ship he is into functional fitness, loves arthouse cinema is a history buff and reads whenever he gets a free minute. Tyrone and his wife Nicole have recently welcomed a baby girl into their lives.

Whilst studying at Wits Technikon in 1998, George worked part-time for ICON, the dial-up division of up and coming ISP, The Internet Solution (now IS). Spotting a real talent, IS offered him a permanent position within the network infrastructure team as a junior engineer before he even graduated. Over the next two years, George added to his electrical engineering certificate with several Cisco qualifications. In 2002, at age 23, he became the then youngest CCIE in South Africa.

He spent another eight years at IS, working on the architecture and maintenance of its core IP and MPLS networks, the ICOZA network, international caching and routing, and QoS design. This is where his great professional passion was born – building large-scale, world-class MPLS networks and designing the services that run across them.

Wanting a bit more freedom and fresh challenges, George became a self-employed consultant to the likes of IS, MTN Irancell, Nokia Siemens Networks, Vodacom Business, Sudatel and FourSpiral. He was still in touch with Jeff and Mauritz, and a seed was planted to collaborate in a new venture, specialising in providing the best technical skills and a fierce commitment to quality customer service, which became a reality in 2009 as three6five network solutions.

George has three great passions. Building IP and MPLS networks, football, and Formula One motor racing. He is married with three sons and a daughter.

A network is only as good as what you can do with it, and Richard is the go-to guy for bringing together the data pipe and the software that makes it a useful business tool. Even as a kid he was writing software – coding in BASIC on a Commodore 64 or ZX81, eventually became a wizard in advanced php scripting and MySQL databases on enterprise-class super-servers. He also had a great enthusiasm for the early BBS world. Wanting to know how it all worked and fitted together was very alluring to him, and helping to build it the ultimate excitement.

He studied electronic engineering briefly, before being pulled back into the family business to set up its computer systems. He went back to university, earning a computer science degree, and then went into the corporate world at IS, where he carried on picking up networking qualifications.

He started on the extreme technical end as a network installations and then infrastructure engineer, before steadily shifting over to the business side in systems integration, access product development and product management.

Tempted away from IS by the lure of start-up adventure, he left the company to become the first full time employee on the Vottle project, South Africa’s home-grown free online classifieds portal. Richard loved the flexibility and agility of working with a small, focussed group of people that solve problems properly, with no passing of the buck or ducking responsibility. When he saw what the founders of three6five were building, he jumped at the chance to join the team.

When not building advanced networks, Richard is up to his knees in cement, paint, sawdust and glue, renovating and improving his home, perfecting his garden and spending time with friends and family.

Alwyn's love of the world wide web started with him visiting as many parts as he could in person. Cured of the travel bug he settled back in South Africa deploying SAP systems for Anglo Platinum and was ultimately given the task of running the Anglo Platinum network.

Wanting to learn more about ISP networks, he joined Internet Solutions, moved into Netops and deployed international POPs, large MPLS customers and got his IP mojo working.

Alwyn chose to move away from the hustle of Joburg life to a similar but slightly quieter hustle in Durban life. With his desire to learn more about IP networks, he started the three6five KZN office and helps to keep IP packets moving for the coastal companies and the larger national three6five customers.

The benefit of living in Durban is the sun, the beach and the waves. Alwyn takes as much advantage of this as possible surfing and spending lazy days on the beach with his family.

Nick Joined three6five in 2012 to strengthen the routing and switching team with his considerable experience in both Service provider and Enterprise networks. We had to get him back from Bermuda where he had just finished Rolling out a Metro fibre and WiMax network for the ISP he was principal engineer at. Nick’s considerable expertise and ability to design, sell and implement a network made him the natural choice to head up our newest office in Cape Town.
Another product of Internet Solutions, Nick knew he had a love for IP networking the moment he finished college and began certifying in networking rapidly with the culmination of his Cisco studies resulting in his CCIE in 2009. He didn’t stop there. He has since gone onto certify in Juniper, Fortinet and Riverbed to ensure he remains skilled on multiple products and vendors.
Nick is a massive technology enthusiast and can talk “tech” with just about anyone in the IT industry, including developers. When not working, you will find him in strange locations with his Camera on a tripod or in the Kitchen attempting to cook a meal. His next hobby, Trail riding.
